When your MIND won't stop racing

Hey Reader,

This Weekend in the Word is a reminder I needed myself.

This week, I’ve found it especially difficult to turn my thoughts off. It seems like I’ve been caught in a never-ending loop of thinking about everything under the sun. Work, family, ministry, church, dinner, lunch, you name it. Even when I wasn’t physically doing something, my mind was busy trying to figure out what needed to happen next.

And that’s when I was reminded of the gift that this day of rest brings. It’s an opportunity to step away from the internal and external noise, lay aside the endless list of things that need my attention, and simply sit and be with Jesus.

As I was reading Luke 10, Jesus’ words to Martha stood out to me:

“My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!” (Luke 10:41, NLT)

I couldn’t help but recognize myself in those words. Like Martha, much of what had occupied my thoughts involved good things and responsibilities that genuinely needed my attention. But somewhere in the midst of it all, I had allowed the details to become a source of worry rather than simply things I needed to steward.

Then Jesus says in verse 42:

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about.” (NLT)

Martha was concerned about many things, but Jesus reminded her that only one thing deserved her greatest attention.

And perhaps that’s the reminder you need this weekend, too.

What details have been occupying your thoughts lately? What have you been trying to figure out, manage, or make happen that has left you feeling worried or upset?

I want to invite you to set those things aside for a little while and spend time at the feet of Jesus. The responsibilities may still be there when you return, but you don’t have to allow them to consume every moment of your attention.

This Weekend I encourage you to stop focusing on all the details long enough to be present with the One who matters most.

Because often the most important thing we can do is stop doing and simply be with Him.

In the Word with you,

Luke 1–2

Follow the Thread: In Luke 1:32–33, the angel announces that Jesus will receive the throne of David and reign over the house of Jacob forever. Jacob, also called Israel, was the father of the twelve tribes. Jesus comes through the tribe of Judah, fulfilling God's promise of an everlasting kingdom through David's line. (Genesis 49:10; 2 Samuel 7:12–16)

Happy Global Bible Month! Hey Reader, If you know me, you know how much I love God’s Word. In fact, if you asked my children to name one thing their mommy loves, they’d probably say, “Reading the Bible!” The Bible has transformed my life, and I love helping others fall in love with God and His Word, too. That’s why I call myself a Bible Student-Teacher. I love how Luke 6:40 reminds me that a student is not above their teacher. No matter how much I teach Scripture, I’m still a student learning...

From speaking with friends at the YouVersion Summit to celebrating our anniversary, homecoming send-offs, senior pictures, and now a birthday celebration to close out the month!
