Hey Reader, As we head into this weekend, I'm holding two things close to my heart: the beginning of our Colossians study on Monday and the start of another school year. Personally, I'm preparing to send one child back to college, another into senior year, one into high school, and one into middle school. That's a lot of transitions happening under one roof! And as excited as I am for each of them, I'm also very aware that every new season brings new environments, relationships, influences, decisions, and opportunities for their faith to be tested and strengthened. Whether your children are homeschooled, attend school online, or are walking into a public or private school, they need our prayers. The enemy would love to interfere with what God is establishing in them, but we have the privilege of intentionally bringing our children before the Lord and entrusting every part of their lives to Him. It's one of the reasons our study through Colossians feels so timely to me. Paul continually brings our attention back to Christ, who He is, His supremacy, and what it looks like for our lives to be rooted in Him. That's the kind of foundation I want for my children, and honestly, it's the foundation I need too. But before we open the book together, I want to spend this Weekend in the Word doing something else. I want us to pray. And this time, I want you to pray with someone who is incredibly special to me. My spiritual mother and mentor, Delphine Kirkland, came into my life during one of the most difficult parenting seasons I've experienced. She has personally prayed me through moments when I didn't have the words to pray for myself, and I have experienced the fruit of having a godly woman willing to stand with me in prayer. In this particular prayer, Delphine talks about the reality that there are places our children will go where we simply cannot follow. She encourages parents to release what we cannot control and trust the God who never loses sight of our children. Then she prays specifically over their identity, minds, relationships, protection, education, faith, and their personal encounters with God. That is what I want our Weekend in the Word to look like this week. The prayer begins around 3:25, so find a quiet pocket of time this weekend and pray along with Delphine. Whether your child is five, fifteen, twenty-five, or grown with children of their own, we never outgrow the privilege of covering them in prayer. After you listen, find a Scripture to intentionally pray over them throughout this school year. One of my favorites is Isaiah 54:13: "All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children." (NKJV) What scripture are you praying over the children in you life going into the school year?
P.S. Our first Colossians teaching will be available at 7:00 a.m. ET, with new videos releasing every Monday and Wednesday. You don't have to be there at 7:00 a.m.; once each teaching is available, watch whenever your schedule allows. Also, many of you have already grabbed your Colossians Companion Study Guide, and I am so excited to begin studying with you on Monday. But please know that the companion study guide is not required to participate. Every teaching will be completely free on YouTube, so grab your Bible, a notebook if you'd like, and come study the Word with us. P.S.S. Journal the Journey, our 90-day Scripture writing resource, is officially back in stock! Thank you to every person who has already purchased a copy. Your purchase does more than put a resource in your hands; it helps support the work of Word & Seed Ministries and the team serving behind the scenes to help us get the message of the gospel out into the world. I'm deeply grateful that we get to do this together. |
