Weekend in the Word

Hey Reader,

These Weekend in the Word emails are just as much for me as they are for you. As I prepare them, they help me reset my heart, quiet the noise, and sit with Jesus in a way the week rarely allows.

Lately, I've been thinking about a question I've returned to often, What would I tell my younger self about God's love?

This weekend, my answer is simple.

I would tell her not to skip the parts of Scripture that feel uncomfortable or confusing, especially the ones that seem intimidating. God's love is woven through every page, even the ones we don't fully understand yet.

That thought brings me to what I believe may be one of the most overlooked books of the Bible: the Song of Solomon.

Many believers quietly avoid it. Some aren't sure what to do with it. Others assume it's only for married couples. I used to be one of those people.

But when I slowed down, asked God for understanding, and read it with fresh eyes, everything changed.

This book isn't primarily about romance. It's about identity. It's about what it means to be loved, chosen, pursued, and secure. It's about learning to see ourselves the way God sees us.

Scripture tells us that we are the Bride of Christ. That truth applies to every believer, regardless of relationship status. Understanding that identity reshaped how I see myself, how I receive God's love, and how I approach intimacy with Him.

Years ago, I read A Bride Makes Herself Ready by Patricia King, and it shifted something deep in me. Being the Bride of Christ isn't symbolic language—it's foundational to how we walk with God.

That's why I created a short YouVersion Bible Plan called The Unveiling:Discovering Your True Identity through the Song of Solomon.

Reader, more than once people have told me, "I've never heard this book explained that way. Now I actually want to read it."

My prayer is that this weekend becomes a turning point for you. A moment where rest, revelation, and identity come together.

With you on your journey,
